My name is Megan Cathcart and I am enrolled in the English and Education concurrent program offered by the University of Calgary. My specialization is Secondary English Language Arts Education. Hello and welcome to my digital portfolio which includes my current educational philosophy, my views concering the importance of professional development, and a segment on my passion for my English specialization. Summer Camp Counsellor at Panorama Hills Community Centre

July-August 2016

Responsibilities included:

  • Leading and implementing an engaging camp program

  • Participating in all camp activities including crafts, games, and field trips

  • Interacting and forming relationships built on trust and respect with children ages 3-10

 

Tutor at the Calgary Tutoring Centre

July 2014- August 2015

Responsibilities included:

  • Preparing lessons based on the Alberta Curriculum  

  • Assisting students with understanding course content, completing assignments and studying for exams

  • Being flexible in order to adapt to individual students’ needs

  • Coordinating with elementary schools and environmental educators
  • As a team, creating and presenting an environmental presentation for elementary students
  • Leading children around their communities to paint yellow fish by the storm drains and educate their neighbors about the watershed
  • Fundraising to afford a pizza party for participating classes
